Willunga Almond blossom festival August 09

Willunga is a town located south of Adelaide CBD and during July-August (winter-spring), this town become one of the prettiest town in South Australia, yyyyy?

I setup on a mission to discover its attraction to draw people to this town on a August weekend. And from there to Sellick beach, Aldinga beach…etc, one of the BEST claimed beaches in South Australia!!!
It took ~1hr bus ride to get me there, passing though McLaren Vale, one of SA’s best winery region. This kinda became my LONG LONG walk……for my discovery journey of South Australia, haha.
Dropped off right at the Willunga market, a good place to start my exploration, to see the life and people of Willunga. The market is mainly groceries, fruits, cafes, selling plants, nthg very special. As it’s just pass the almond harvesting season, there are stalls selling home-made almonds in different tastes!! Tasted some FOC like honey, roasted, sea salt, and some weird flavours, haha.

Among the plants for sell in the picture below, one of them is BEETROOT – sthg reddish, and also appeared in cans as well, and favourite among some Australians. But i have never tasted beetroot before, because many colleagues of mine don’t like it, so i avoided since then, haha. Maybe i should really give it a try!!!

Now, after touring around the market, i asked around to know where would be the best places to see the almond blossom, and i was directed by the almond stall seller to their orchard down almond grove road, which is: “you probably can walk down there, about 3-5km?? or maybe you can catch the bus?? if you walk, u have to………You can also walk down there a bit………”, Oh ok…..hmmmmm,
Next, i was walking all the way trying to find my 1st almond tree!!! nearby the market there were a few, but vy young one, so look Ok lar, i hunger for MORE!!! So i walked and walked……
And this was where i discovered the first beautiful sight of Almond trees in blossoms!!! The pictures will do the job of story telling….haha

At the same time, as it’s early spring, everywhere is covered wherever and whenever possible by this small carpet-like plants with yellow flowers!!!! This yellow flowers blend in so well with almond trees!!!

Not very sure if these pink colours one are almond trees or not, haha, but the pink ones were much much prettier, haha.

Imagine you are the tenant of the house below, wake up from bed, open up your window and lookout from here……^.^

I walked and walked again, leaving the Willunga town far behind, not taking the bus, as i suddenly felt i really see A LOT and have many chances to take photos which i cant if i take a bus especially this road has only a few stops even though a VERY LONG ROAD!!!

Went into this DUNO WHO place, a piece of land that i cant resist to get in there!!!

Somehow this place is Willunga Waldorf school??? It has a couple of building or house in there, haha.

Apparently this area also have a few vineyards, though it’s not the seasons yet, but it’s nice to see the vineyard line up :)

Even though it’s not the planting season of grapes, yet the vineyards looked AWESOME!!!! What u see below is just wild flowers growing, and yet it looks like planted!!!

Finally, not sure how far have i walked……but SURE DAMN FAR!!!! i saw ALMOND GROVE ROAD SIGNBOARD!!! it’s like saw gold!!!! wahaha, and yet i still to walk quite a distant lagi, sigh!!!

From far, i got very excited because i can see the whole almond orchard lining in parallel , haha, Really like strike 4D, wahaha. Though the trees looks quite empty, after bloom and harvest (different areas and age trees have different blooming timing) but the feeling was good still, haha, the almond tree here are VY old one, so they all looked big and full grown!!! Just cant help wondered how will it look like if i came here earlier when the whole line of trees were in full bloom!!!

Next, i was just walking habis Biscay road coz i dun like standing waiting for the bus that only come hourly!!! But the walk was so longggggggggggggggggggggggggg, how i wished i was in the bus then!!! Untill i walked almost habis the whole road, baru the bus muncul, sigh……tired, haha, but i’m cant wait to step my foot on Sellick beach, hehe!!!

Beethovenize!!! 24th July 09

Beethoven Festival in Adelaide!!!

Saw this event 1 or 2 months ago, and i knew i have to go!!! YYY??

They are playing my favourite symphony from Beethoven – Beethoven symphony No.7!!! This piece of music was the symphony that i like the most while i was watching the Japanese drama series _ Nodame Cantabile!!! A symphony filled with joy, strength, triumphs, and celebrations!!! Afterall, now i am able to experience this symphony No.7 live, what could be better than that!!!

The Beethoven fest was divided into 3 continuous days with three triumphant concerts of Beethoven symphonies and piano concertos performed by mainly The Australian Youth Orchestra and Grammy award winner conductor – John Nelson. Among them include piano concerto no.2 & 3, symphony no.1, 6, 2, 8 my favourite 7, and one of the best – No.9.

Invited few of my colleagues, and their frens to join along. Surprisingly, they agreed to come, haha, their reason?? Want to try out classical and live experience, haha. Bought our tickets and got cheaper price as we booked in group, haha.

The performance was GREAT overall, i didn’t know how to really appreciate the first symphony yet- No.2, haha. First time listen to it, but it was generally nice to listen to. The piano concerto No.3 was played by an international well known pianist named Herbert Schuch, i really love this concerto, duno how to describe it well, but i fall in love straight when i heard it (usually songs or music that can make me like them instantly are good ones, haha). One of my colleague said he is not as good as Konstantine, haha, but i think both of them are real PROs.

The last awaiting symphony No.7 got me very high and anticipating too. Got me wondering how good they will perform!! Overall, it was another GREAT performance, however, somehow i anticipated too much that i felt a bit disappointed because i compared them to what i listen to played by PROs in Berlin or Prague, haha. But again, i must admit this piece of symphony is REALLY hard to play and required many musicians to bring it to full strength/energy and there must be a VERY good balance between who’s the main melody. All in all, i enjoyed the concert a lot!!!

Vietnam star city 3rd, July 09

Another stop in Vietnam during our world food tour.
This time it’s Vietnam Star city recommended by Jo. Walked quite far from our work place to get here, located at the far west end of Gouger St. However, the food made the walk well-worth!!!

The ambience was quite alright, not typical Vietnamese style but a bit western setting. Jo recommended we must try this and that including the cold roll and meat ball. Xiao recommended we tried the BBQ quills too but we didn’t as we cant manage so much food, haha.

The best part of the cold rolls is you can make your own misshapen cold rolls out of a stack of round rice paper, a bowl of hot water and the freshest of ingredients (as shown below). First time tried it, and it tasted really GOOD, especially with the nice tasty sauce!!!! Ate alot of these cold rolls, haha. Finger licking good!!! Wondered how they made the thin rice paper!!!!

We also ordered this prawn meat grilled with sugar cane stick, so the prawn meat taste really awesome with sugar cane aroma and flavour. We wrapped bits of the prawn meat we cut with the cold rolls which makes the cold rolls taste even BETTER!!! This prawn meat taste even better than the meat ball, haha.

All of us, Jo, Tash and me went crazy eating, coupled with tasmania light beer. We were all so full after the meal. This was the first time i tasted such nice vietnamese food, definitely will come back for more!!!

My life in Adelaide have its excitement, and mundane moments. Have moved once since i'm here from my city west apartment which i stayed 2 mths with killing high rental fees to Marleston. The city west apartment is a good one to live in, new and clean and best of all, it’s within the CBD which means i’m in the city center, can walk to anywhere without having to take the bus. Even better, as all the bus pass through the CBD, i can catch any bus i want and also easier for me to watch any events held in the CBD especially during night time because i can walk.

Something good which i like and hate of my bedroom was that it face the east. Haha, the early sun shine shine directly at me especially during summer, by 7am my head kena the intense laser beam of sunlight waking me up like an alarm but disturbing my sleep, haha.

During my stay here, for the 1st few weeks, i have been sleeping on my jacket instead of a proper pillow, till i finally cant tahan, and bought myself a comfy pillow, haha.

My lines of postcard or cards that i bought or picked up for free or received just in 2 mths. One thing surprising me was u can get free postcards at many locations in Adelaide for free, though it may not be the best post cards, but certainly some of them looked cool and pretty and also some comes v good messages!!!

Haha, however, i cant afford it with my “ngam ngam hor” allowance, haha. Continue living in the city west apartment means i have to continue being conservative in my spending, no $ for eating out, no excessive spending, no travel.

2mths later i moved into western suburb called Marleston which is a house instead of an apartment. It’s much cheaper and affordable though a bit old and not very well taken care of, haha. Still, it’s good enuf for me, got my own room still which is not too big nor too small.

This house have a big front yard and backyard though sadly no gardens, haha. Hate it every time the grass in the front yard grew long, have to wait for the owner to call people to come over and lawn, otherwise, all our shoes will become wet while crossing through after rain. THough, the backyard did have few trees, and one of them is a fruit tree, not sure is peach or nectarine!!

The kitchen not so bad lar, haha.

My room… in the earlier days. This time, there’s only one window which somehow does not allowed enough sun light into which a bit of annoying, the room felt like a grey blue room during autumn and winter. Siting in there will influence your mood become blue, haha.

My room again in the later days, …..As i mentioned before, winter is freezing cold, too cold till i cant sleep properly for few nites as the temperatures drops during midnight, owez waking up the next day yawning and not enuf sleep, hence bought myself a wool quilt during winter which really make a HUGE difference. Even bought myself a pair of thick wool socks, haha. Spring is the best time for weather :) I miss spring and autumn, haha.

Once in a lifetime musician: Konstantin Shamray!!!

30th April 2009, Elder Hall, Adelaide: Never thought i would have a chance to witness such a talented pianist here. He is just amazing yet humble person. This rare opportunity was arranged by the Elder hall, which is the uni organization that arranged all the concerts, recitals,…etc every semester!!! Compared to UM, UM can put aside lar, hahahha. There are showcase and musical session almost every Friday for view performed either by the students or other groups, and there are also night concerts with various renown musicians visiting Australia. Bought this ticket at a reasonable price for a student pass, otherwise to watch him performing live in a concert, the price can easily go up to 40$ at least for the cheapest!!! Surprisingly, many who attend the recital are old couples or old man, wondered why!!! Perhaps not many people in Adelaide appreciate classical anymore as much as those elderly do. TOO BAD for them!!!! Or not many knew about it.

For your info, Konstantin is from Russia and has been the recipient of several Foundation awards. Performed in many concert halls in Moscow and other cities in Russia and also in Italy, Germany, Holland, Austria, Crezh Republic and the US. Recently, he has won 1st prize and 8 special prize in the 2008 Sydney International Piano competition. Can u imagine dat? haha, that’s what make him so good!!!

Indeed, seeing him perform live is like seeing Beethoven to me or Rachmaninov perform live. His hands are so fast that u felt like you are seeing an octopus playing with many tentacles. The only drawback is the grand piano is not as good as he is, the grand piano is an old one. In fact, the recital is meant for collecting fund to buy a new grand piano for Elder hall.

He practiced his play as if he is working for a job, even more hours for a performance!!! Imagine just playing the piano with the same piece over and over again to perfect it!!! That’s how much time and passion one such as him put into his career.

Oooo, i wish i noe how to play piano like him!!! i love the look of the grand piano!!! Wish i own one in the future, hahahha. But i guessed i’ll hv to learn how to play piano first, what i’ve learned before during the last 2 months in K2J all hilang dy. Sigh!!! Being aiming to buy a casio C-100 keyboard, but ………, sigh!!!! :(

My colleague who can play piano very well was so touched by his performance that she shed a few tears claiming that he is SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO good!!!! Imagine that, haha. Guessed his age!!!!! Looked mature and good looking rite??? Some more, tall lagi!!! He is just 24!!!!!!

This were the pieces his played and he added a few extra after he got high!!! haha. Everyone gave him a loud long applaud after his finished. I wished to shout “bravo” like what i saw in the Nodame series, but no one did that, maybe everyone was too shy or that is not the culture here yet.

Got his signature off him, haha, very happy!!!

Hallet cove again in late winter!!! 25th July 2009

Winter days in Adelaide are usually cold and gloomy and grey. Temperatures can range from 3-20 degrees. Rainfall is the highest during winter, almost everyday is a rainy day, however, the rainfall here is very much different from Malaysia as the clouds cry whenever they like to, and the funny part is they cry for a while, sometimes they weep only sometimes burst into tears very suddenly then stop. But nothing like our Malaysia tropical storm, rains for hours like pouring water from above or for days continuously. The weather is worse if it’s windy. The wind kills!!! You felt each gust of wind penetrate your skin and chill your bone!!! You get very little sun shine and the day gets dark early. So winter days are Soooooooooooo sien, hid in the room, most of the time u felt like hiding under the warm Quilt and zzzz away. Your hands are freezing even by just holding the mouse, and your legs are numb even if u wore thick woolen socks. Basically, if i’m an animal, i would go hibernate, lol.

Yet 25th July was a bright sunny day, just felt like being activated by the sunshine. Just cant resist the temptation to go out somewhere and get some vitamin D, haha. The weather and temperature is just nice!!! So, i invited my 2 housemates to come along with me to my favourite spot in Adelaide – Hallet Cove, hehe, i even asked them to jog. They too felt like getting active, but not in the mood for jogging, so we ended up strolling along the cool breeze under the lovely sunshine!!! Trust me, you’ll LOVE the sun so much during the winter!!!

Flowers, flowers everywhere as it’s getting a bit hotter towards the end of winter. Some flowers were already in bloom. The lovely flowers make everywhere, anywhere a beautiful sight!!! Saw this sakura like trees, not sure it’s real sakura or the almond tree blossom which looks very identical to me.

As i mentioned above, winter get the most rain throughout the whole year, thus when there’s more sunshine, everywhere is in lush greeennnnnnnnnnnnn!!! Very pretty!!!

Hallet cove just looked so different with the green landscape!!! With yellow tiny flowers everywhere in full bloom!!! My last visit during December was all dry arid colours. Totally different!!!

Blue blue clear sky……, you’ll only get these during spring and summer mostly. It’s so peaceful to the eyes!!! Capture this photo with the little aeroplane, haha. Here you’ll see planes and sailing boat on a nice day!!!
Sook Xia, u’ll love this place since you like to see air planes take off. Even better off Glenelg, wahaha.

This time, we went down to the rocky beach. It’s such a nice place!!! This beach holds some funny geographical formation, ridges and rocks that have geographical significance.

Walk up the hill again in hallet cove, which looks really greennnnn!!! Everywhere is green now!!! Love it!!!

These tiny little yellow flowers looks very pretty when there are in scattered around in a big patch of green green grass.

Beautiful sunset during winter!!! What a nice way to end the day!!! I’ll come back again :)

Awesome Indian food in Maya restaurant, 4th June2009

Our regular dinner outing around Adelaide with my colleagues, tasting food from around the world, yeah!!! This one is in Market St, central market’s “little India”.

The Maya Indian Restaurant in Adelaide, Australia serves all sorts of Indian regional dishes like North Indian, South Indian, Tandoori, Mughlai and Kashmiri cuisine. It is among the very few Indian Restaurants, Adelaide serving South Indian dishes, like dosas with sambhar and chutney. Indian bread is also very popular here. The specialties of the Maya Indian Restaurant are paneer cheeses and cucumber raita. The menu also consists of regular North Indian Delicacies like butter chicken, kormas, rogan josh and a variety of Indian curries. You end your meal with some tasty Indian sweet dish. First time seen indian food with so many different sauce and different meat e.g beef, chicken, fish. There’s also dessert with yogurt mixed with lentils. The good is you get the taste of everything, the pity thing is all came in small portions. Taste really nice but not really spicy.

I’m a person that will pay tickets to cinema for movies that i think well-worth. That usually occurs with big production or cool stunts such as, Matrix, the LOTR, transformers, …etc. Otherwise i rather download or wait for someone to have them and grab from them.

Somehow i know the movie: This is it, is not something i mentioned above, but as i’m curious of what Michael is like at backstage and of course i’m a big fan of his songs and dance and still will be, i just went to watch last night.

Surprisingly, there were quite some people in the same theater room. Normally, not many people would go for a movie in Adelaide as the tickets are considerably expensive if without any discount. This mean there are quite a lot of MJ fans who are same as me, willing to pay a ticket just to watch MJ.

It turned out that i like the movie quite a lot. Shed some tears twice, haha. Although it looks a bit like documentary style or the making of a movie, but it is through this movie, that i’ve seen MJ more closely, his character, his attitude, the person behind screen. In this movie, i really found out that MJ is such a music talented person, he knows all his songs so well, the keys, he arrange the songs the way he wish audience would like to hear, change the song plays, he direct the stage and the dance. Also, you’ll found that MJ has a kind side in which he always thank people, bless people, appreciate what people have done. One can see that he really worked hard for the concert, train and train, try n try again. He has hopes for the world, for planet earth, telling of the dangers of Global Warming and the lack of reversible time left.

MJ's concepts are often jaw-droppingly impressive. Even by just watching the snippets of the concert intended to be, i can imagine how grand and massive the concert will be. In the concert, Thriller was to involve a 3-D sequence, with all the different mummies which looks really awesome, effects footage for Smooth Criminal blends Jackson into film noir classics opposite Humphrey Bogart and Rita Hayworth showing MJ escaping again and his slow version of The Way You Make Me Feel looks like a super-sized tribute to Old Hollywood musicals. I REALLY LOVE this jazzy version of The way you make me feel. Unfortunately it was not in the accompanying album of this is it.

There’s also a new video sequence for Earth song, featuring a small girl who wanders through an abundant forest, falls asleep, and wakes up to find the forest destroyed by man. The progressively lost of Amazon forest caused him to write this beautiful song.

Shed tears as i knew it was regrettable that i won’t have any more chance in my life to see this person, king of pop live in concert anymore. haha.

The movie is not GREAT as in movies you would have seen for all the other action-thriller movies, but i think it’s really well-worth and you get to listen to those all time favourite MJ songs and watch all the cool dance again!!!If you are a MJ fan, i'm sure this movie will entertain and amaze you!!!! He will always be the KING OF POP!!! no doubt!!!

1st AFL!!!! Awesome experience!!! 31st May

I’m beginning to like FOOTBALL!!! (i shud said football here is NOT soccer)

All due to this awesome opportunity offered by Greg (my supervisor) to watch the CROWS (one of the Adelaide team) vs Hawthorn (from Victoria) when the game was held in Adelaide :). Prepared myself, went to the game v Greg.

Football is one the major sport in Australia, same like tennis and cricket. Everyone is into them. Either they watch LIVE when they got the chance or at home LIVE. The tickets for the season are quick to be sold out. One can buy seasonal tickets for your favourite team which cost ~ 100-200$ or a bit more(cant remember exact) and you get to watch every match LIVE when they play home!!

The experience is AWESOME and FANSTATIC. Everyone (when i meant everyone, i meant kids, families, gals and guys!!) in the stadium just cheers and ROAR and HIGH when their favourite team score a direct goal (8points compared to side goal = 1 or 2 point). And all the “#@#$$^%$%@!@#@$%#%*” vulgar sentences and complaints when their favourite team player got tackle and did not get the right justification or “BUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu” all the way or “wat is he doing??? Pass the ball!!! RUNNNNNNNNNNN!!!! “, all the high and low emotional stimulation and adrenaline pumping was a good experience. You don’t felt like you are the only one shouting or cheering crazily, everyone is crazy here!!! haha. Some shout or cheer so loud as if they are screaming on top of their lungs directly into my ear!!!

As i mentioned earlier, football is a huge topic in Adelaide when the season start. You can bump into a stranger and talk bout football as if you knew him/her for ages!!! Ppl predict and bet who is going to win…etc. There’s a saying that : “Everyone in Adelaide got merrier the next day if the Adelaide team won the game against their rival”. It’s that influential to them!!!!

This is the team i watched, they played pretty well. And slowly i gained a bit of knowledge of how the game play and the Crows became the team i supported, haha. Here, young kids were already trained for football at an early age. So you’ll see when the game have a break, kids coming out into the field playing football which is kinda Cute, haha.

But football is SUCH A BRUTAL game, i just duno how those players got into it, hahha. One knock down to me, i think, i will masuk hospital with fractures here and there. Really dun understand how those boys would get themselves into such brutal game although it 's nice to watch, haha. But certainly not for play!!! Obviously not all are very well built, and energy is not the only winning factor , strategy, team effort, heights and speed are the other winning factors.

When the game ends, huge crowds just get off their bum. A huge traffic jam, luckily Greg parked his car at a spot that can easily hit the road back. ALl in all, an AMAZING experience!!!!

Colours of Autumn in Adelaide hills…~ 秋之美 ~ cont.

Autumn around other small towns in the Adelaide hills are as fascinating as the Mt.Lofty botanical garden. You can see some ppl plant these autumn trees in their front yard which make the house looks much more stand out with the vibrant colour of the autumn tree. Here are some photos of Autumn in Bridgewater (famous for the mill) and Sterling (awesome in autumn) which i like a lot :)

Colours of Autumn in Adelaide hills…~ 秋之美 ~

The arrival of the fall between April and May has brought with it warm colours but chilly mornings and cold nights.

I must say one of my most awesome trip in Adelaide so far was in April – the season of Autumn :)

Autumn colours have always been very fascinating and vibrant, never thought that i would see them in Adelaide, all i can say is i felt like a part of my life fulfilled and dream came true :). This trip to the Adelaide hills – Mount Lofty botanic garden has been one my most anticipated trip because this garden has a collection of many different deciduous autumn foliaged trees and the colours of this garden changes with season. It was one of happiest day here although i went on this trip alone, the colours of autumn just brighten my day no matter what sorrows or hardships i face the day before. JUST FASCINATING!!!!

Have been wondering when would be the best time to visit Adelaide hills, when would the leaves turn its colours, and if yes, how long they last, will i be too late or too early. The trees in the city gave no sign of when is the best time of autumn as the trees planted here don’t change much. Even though, one species of maple tree is planted around the city, that species sadly do not change its leaves colour, all it does is turn brownish, dry and drop-off.

The best time to capture the colours of autumn is when the colours start appearing. The time frame between the best of the autumn colour and bare branches can be very short. A brief thunderstorm or burst of strong wind is all that separates a beautiful tree laden with autumn colour from being a pile of leaves on the ground. It's all too easy to wait too long for the perfect day that never comes and, along the way, miss out on some great shots.

I picked one of the weekend which is supposed to be somewhere in the mid of Autumn season, and prepared myself very early as i knew i need a whole day, i don’t want to be rushing and ended up taking shit/blur photos, haha. Once i reached the foothill of my destination, excitement filled me thoroughly. Bz enjoying the early morning and taking photos. Signs of colourful autumn can be seen at the foothill, just AMAZING!!! Couldn’t wait to get to Mt.Lofty botanic garden!!!!



Foggy roads uphill everywhere as Mt.Lofty botanic garden is located in the hills. The whole place looked empty, chill weather (i was there by 8sthg am) but peaceful. Enjoying the crisp fresh air :)

The whole garden was filled with mist everywhere, which make shots a bit harder due to the fog. But it was at the same time good as the sun is still pretty much asleep meaning i can good shots with soft lights without worrying bout irritating bright over-exposed sun light.

My 1st beautiful signs of russet and gold yellow fallen autumn leaves decorating the floor bed of the trails!!!!

As most of the deciduous plants are planted as patches on certain area or path, i have to walk a fair distance to get to that AMAZING trail. Words just can’t describe my feelings when i saw all these AMAZING work of nature, those striking colourful of autumn leaves and trees. My mood just swing from normal to HIGH, smiling and WOW all the way as if i saw money hanging on those trees. Just amazed and stunt!!! One can really see the transformation from green to yellow, amber, crimson and purple along the trail. The only thing i felt sad is that i SHOULD have a DSLR with polarized filters to shoot these photos, as the sun rise higher, the sunlight is so annoying that i can’t get a good shot.

This post shall be something different, just a mixture of random photos that i don’t really know how to group them in better ways. Many of the photos below were taken when walking from one place to another – walk, saw, snap, walk. One of the many things i shot are statues, which i find fascinating, because this statues are a sign of beauty and something that decorated the streets. Another good object for shots are flowers, there are plenty here, and once again made the everyday walk along the street not mundane. Another abundant subject is building which you’ll find many old english style building still in maintained in good shape till today including Adelaide University. Most of the statues and old english style building are found in north terrace, one of the busiest road in Adelaide CBD. Next, rundle street and rundle mall, the two busiest streets in Adelaide CBD for good food and shopping are always filled with people which attracts many buskers to perform on the street and earn some money. Bands with drums, keyboard, guitarist, violinist, aborigines performing their cool music, street performers, jugglers, magicians…etc. Chinatown sometimes looks pretty with the lights up, otherwise it’s a street full of asians, haha.

Henley beach 12th Apr

Henley Beach is just west of Adelaide CBD, in fact another beach near to the city which form the whole stretch of beaches along the coastal line with west beach, glenelg, semaphore….etc. Even though one might say every beach in Adelaide look identical, but still the urge to see new beach and explore new place is there. I ajak my housemate, Jesse to go along this time, haha, one of the trip i don’t go alone :)
To go there, we actually have to walk for half hrs + to get to the nearest direct bus to Henley beach because my house location is already in the west, otherwise we have to get into the city, switch bus and then to Henley beach. Eager to watch sunset there and snaps photos, haha.

Waiting by the bus stop. Once we reached there, we found this red colonial building fairly attractive especially under the golden ray of sunshine.

Of course, beaches in Adelaide are always fill with people from all walks of life. People gathered in groups or families to enjoy the sunshine. And of course, every beach i visited so far have at least one jetty, so do Henley beach. The jetty kinda become a must walk around everytime u visited a beach.

Often, u’ll find people fishing here, i guessed it’s one of the popular activity here. I meant in Msia, u seldom find beaches with jetty and fishing usually is not allowed, not even pets, how sad, isn’t it?? In fact, i quite surprised most of them doing fishing are asians. Maybe Adelaide is too SIEN for them, haha.

And u’ll people duno wana panching or catch wat, using a big chunk of breast chicken fillet as bait!!! they are not catching small crabs, duno wat they wan, lol. Luckily Adelaide coastal water and beaches are reasonably CLEAN!!!! Adelaide people really cherish their environment.

Sunset in Adelaide is always BEAUTIFUL and AWESOME!!! Especially during clear weather, more often than not u’ll get to see sunset!!! Not like Msia, clouds everywhere, or haze lar…etc. Best of all, u dun need to go far to c them, :)

The unfortunate thing that happened was that we mistaken the bus stop sign for the one we came for, we drop at somewhere with similiar number, but because we stroll along the beach to other side, in fact we cross the junction which was serviced by the bus that took us there. And we walked up to the road next to the beach, we thought we were at the correct junction or bus stop. Thinking oh soon the bus will come shortly according to the timetable, but HELL NO!!!! We waited for SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO long which felt like ages, x bus came. We looked left n right, still no bus, but we saw bus passed by into a corner in front of us a few stops away. Felt like an idiot when we realized that we actually were fooled by the bus stop number (picture above) which another bus stop serviced by another bus but comes 1 hr once. And we realized no wonder the bus stop sign does not have any timetable because it was only service by one bus. We have to walk back to the junction we were dropped off earlier, haha. Still, it’s a nice evening, the beach breeze was refreshing and good sunset view still make the trip worthwhile, YEAH!!!

Bazu dinner :) Apr 9th

Dinner at Bazu Sichuan food, yeah!!!
It was kinda lab dinner with many from my lab attended, bf, and gf, haha. Being talking about this restaurant long time ago since i heard bout it from Xiao which recommend it as an awesome restaurant for certain Sichuan style cuisines. And finally i’m there, hehe.

This restaurant is located at Gouger st, one of the main st for international food lovers :). This st is food heaven of Adelaide CBD. Every night, restaurants here are packed with people especially during friday and weekends.

The menu from Bazu looks pretty too.

The chili spicy chicken boxing was good, not spicy to me but a bit spicy to the aussie, haha.

This one here was one of the most delicious, forgot what' it’s call. We wrapped the minced beef meat with wrapper made from tofu.

When it’s wrapped properly, it like this :).

The roast chicken (bottom right) was just so so.

Overall, some of the food was awesome while some were just SO SO. However, for all 10 dishes, the price was not so bad, $20-30 each. Definitely will come back to try out more dishes, hehe.

Adelaide Japanese garden 18th Apr

Been to this Japanese garden

My colleague told me that i don’t need to go as it’s very very small and nothing much to see. THough, i’m still curious….., but sadly it’s nothing what i expected with many bamboos, or decidious trees or bridges and many colours, it’s really a very very small garden, smaller than i expected. It will easily take me <5mins to finish the garden if i have not spend some time trying to take some shots. However, here are some photos :).

Blackhill and Morialta conservation park hike 9th-March

There are so many national parks and conservation/reserve parks in South Australia and there are a few near to Adelaide. Morialta is among them that is close to city (~10km from north east of Adelaide CBD). Without knowing much what this national park will offer except knowing that it has big deep gorge, and few pretty waterfall (at least that’s what i’ve read), i’m on the bus there on a sunny Sunday.

Although the Adelaide metro bus system brings u there, but not exactly to the doorstep or inside the national park. I have to stop at the closest stop and walk. Before i actually reached the entrance of Morialta conservation park, i can see boundaries of the park. One small entry into the bushes directly caught my attention though not knowing where it’ll lead me (i thought i’ll get to the conservation park car park still somehow), i just went in and started my bushwalking. But it’s actually a long walk uphill, all the way upppppppppp. I was gasping a lot as it’s been a long time since i walk uphill. Finally after 15-20 mins continuous walk uphill, i was blessed with a more flat route, and a splendid view when i looked back :)

I can see the whole Adelaide CBD from up there :).

I was actually walking over a hill called Blackhill which actually not consider part of Morialta but a conservation park itself. And Blackhill conservation park is link together with Morialta conservation park :). So while walking on top of blackhill, the view on top was pretty good as the picture below shows :). There’s also a couple of trails here and one of them is “pretty corner trail” which by its words caught my attention, wondering what view it will offer it trek this trail, haha.

And unfortunately, it’s extra walking uphill……arghhhhhhhhh. Still i persisted, hoping i will blessed with some panoramic view of Adelaide hills. Yet, i reached a junction that told me that the trail was where i had just walked a couple of minutes ago. Then, i was “what the??? where’s the pretty corner???”

Not bothered about pretty corner anymore, i opted the trail that will lead me to Morialta car park. And amazingly the trail turned up to be something that was pretty new to me!!!

New vegetation with plants that grows on the edge of hills and rocks. It’s the first time i saw those plants in the wild and there are heaps of them. And this side of the hill is more rocky with some beautiful rock shapes :)

Finally after walking a fair distance, i knew i’m in Morialta and can see the huge deep gorge and ridges.

As u can see, this place is HUGEEEE but very dry because it’s summer when i was there. Can you see the tiny trails in the smaller picture?? That shall give you the scale of the place, haha.

Saw this wild flowers popping out of nowhere, quite pretty :)

Morialta is not only famous for its gorge, but also it’s three falls. With first fall being the easiest to reach, 2nd and 3rd higher n higher up. Sadly, it’s summer and all water run driesssssssss, even though i thought that there should at least have some drops of water flowing because it just rained one week ago. But i guessed Australia summer is quite cruel some to water and creeks, haha, NO MERCY for any drops of water.

There's suppose to be water pouring down from here, first fall. But……everything is just as dry as the desert. TOOOOOOOOOO bad……, people i’ve met there told me to come back during winter, where South Australia receives the most rain throughout the year.

Saw this odd dried up plant, which instantly came into my mind as some ape which we have owez seen in the old movies, haha.

Saw the poster here with the picture on first fall??? Pretty isn’t it??? It suppose to be like that, too bad……i told myself i shall come back to see the waterfall during winter or spring, hehe. On the way back to the ACTUAL Morialta conservation park entrance, saw this GIANT CAVE which first thought, MUST be vyvyvyvy big, but it’s actually vyvy small compared to any cave i have seen, lol.

Wonderful dinner at Xiao’s house 2009/03/08

It was very nice of Xiao to have invited me to her house for dinner though we barely knew each other well yet. But it’s very easy to get along with Xiao, haha.

The dinner was on a Sunday with the following Monday a holiday. Though she invited, i was not sure whether i’ll join or not as kangaroo island filled my mind. I was hoping to go kangaroo island during that weekend. But in the end i’ve decided to join the dinner as i realized it’s too hard to organize such a short trip to a place which is better enjoyed using at least 5 days, and i couldn't find any one to go along, haha.

But i must admit that i’m GLAD i’ve joined the dinner. Xiao’s house was awesome and stylish. Imagine a double storey apartment on the highest level with two balcony each facing east and west. Watch sunrise on the east amid the Adelaide hills as backdrop and sunset over the west, HOW good can one get??

And most importantly, i get to meet new ppls and make new friends :)

Here’s Xiao with her husband, Wayne. Wayne is real master chef, haha. He cooks international food while Xiao cook Chinese food.

We had an AWESOME spanish meal that night with fine wine and Sangria which is a type of cocktail.

There’s Wayne, Kiwi, Xiao, Michael, Pike See and Me (left to right) :). Kiwi’s from HK, while Michael and Pike See both are from M"’Sia. All working or studying in IMVS. I fall in love with Sangria that i drank alot, haha. Really like it, will try to learn how to make it myself one day. Hehe, have to get the recipe from Wayne, he make really good Sangria according to Xiao who have a good taste bud and tasted food all over the world. We all finished the food, and i was to clear up any that was left behind, haha. First time tasted Spanish food and Sangria which both taste AWESOME!!! Banyak thanx to Xiao for inviting me, hehe.

Then we had biscuit tiramisu as dessert. Kiwi made this biscuit tiramisu. Hehe, looked special?? Taste AWESOME too, haha. Again, first time saw such type of tiramisu, haha.

We chat alot, Michael can talk very well, haha. Learned and heard alot of stories, haha. It was a WONDERFUL nite, i’m glad that i chosen to join the dinner instead of Kangaroo island. No regrets!!! YEAH!!!!

Em. Verrier farewell at lemon grass

Em.Verrier is one of the RA in our lab. And now she has left to pursue her master study in sthg

related to hearing.

She is a nice gal, taught me sthg, haha.

During one of her last few days in lab, we went to lemon grass which is a thai restaurant for her farewell.

This was my first time eating out, haha N also my first time tasting pad thai and first time tasting KANGAROO meat, lol.

Usually in Adelaide, lunch is cheaper and affordable. The food came in quite big portion compared to any Malaysian food. Pad thai is a dish of stir-fried rice noodles with eggs, fish sauce, tamarind juice, red chilli pepper, plus any combination of bean sprouts, shrimp, chicken, or tofu, garnished with crushed peanuts and coriander. It is normally served with a piece of lime, the juice of which can be added along with Thai condiments. Pad Thai is one of Thailand's national dishes (from wiki)

The pad thai tasted nice but not sure is it authentic not, as it also taste like chinese style of cooking. Anyway, it taste good. Haha, cant really remembered how the kangaroo meat taste exactly, too long dy but i do know that kangaroo meat was good….hahha.

Visited this beautiful botanical garden

which is located in the heart of the Adelaide CBD. I always left it as one of the last places to visit much like the art gallery, SA musuem,…etc because all these tourist places are within close proximity for me to visit.

But somehow, i just decided on one of the weekend to visit the garden which is just 5 mins work from my working place before i do some lab work. Partly because the roses are in full blossom during that time, so i must get there before the flowers die off.

Well……,

The Adelaide Botanic Garden is a garden oasis in the cosmopolitan heart of Adelaide city.

This 30-hectare nook of the city offers beautifully themed gardens featuring Australian natives, exotic and ornamental plants in one stunning location.

The magnificently restored art deco Palm House is a favourite visitor attraction. This stately glasshouse houses a cactus and succulent garden featuring rare arid land Madagascan flora, now highly threatened in the wild.

Visit the water-wise SA Water Mediterranean Garden, the new Amazon Waterlily Pavilion or stroll in a jungle of giant rainforest plants from Northern Australia and South East Asia in the Bicentennial Conservatory - the biggest glasshouse in the Southern Hemisphere. Hehe, this post i’ll just let the pictures tell the words most of the times :)

Bamboo is one of my favourite, so can't resist to take the photo of it even though it doesn't look so special here. One of the great thing for your eye here is the greenery everywhere especially the green green fresh grass, it's just so nice to look at them, to sit down, picnic, lie down.....

This is something special and i think unique here, at least this was the first time i saw it :)

This was an eye-opener for me to see one of the world largest water lily plant from Amazon :) The size of the water lily is really huge and larger than any pizza size i have ever seen b4. hehe

National rose garden, the earliest in Australia. Everywhere is rose, with a variety of colours and types. 1st time saw such a big field of them and the different types of it :)

There's the Bicentennial Conservatory on the right hand bottom here. It was closed so i din manage to visit, but still there's an entry fare for it, so i guessed i won't bother to enter too even if it's open, haha. Afterall it's just tropical trees, hv't i seen enough of them?

There's also a section for desert plant but rather small but not bad, at least these are plants rarely or not seen in M'sia, hehe.

Funny that i felt this cactus looked like a starfish on the sea bed, haha.

This colourful flowers (lily???) just bloom out of nowhere without any leaves, and there are just so lovely to look at them, haha.

Port Adelaide & Semaphore 2009.02.06

It was late evening after i done a bit of lab work. Though, it’s still summer sunny, hop on to the bus to Port Adelaide. Port Adelaide is quite far from the Adelaide CBD, took quite a while to reach there. I have always like lighthouse, and there is one in Port Adelaide, THAT became my main reason to go Port Adelaide. Now the lighthouse no longer operates if i’m not wrong, but just for display and a place for Port Adelaide celebration. I was quite excited to see the lighthouse, but the only thing lacking is sea and sea breeze. It was not located on the cape with strong waves hitting the sea cliffs, haha. Still, delighted to see the lighthouse :)

Port Adelaide

is quite old in the sense that it boosted many old historical building and is South Australia’s first state heritage area, which is quite true to my eyes. Here is more like a harbour and have a maritime museum.

Haha, while i was there, funny, it’s NOT happening at all, , in fact very empty everywhere, cafes, shops closed, hardly any people around.

There’s a ferryboat that operates to the sea and claims you will get to see dolphins, and the ticket is quite cheap. But i think it’s also not operating that day. So i just basically walked around the little port.

As the time approach sunset, i just walked all the way to find the nearest sea or beach where i can get a good view of sunset, on the map the beach named Semaphore seems quite close, HAHA, but HELL NOOOOOOO, i walked and walked and NOOOOOOO sign of any beach and the sun is setting down soon……, later i just followed the direction of the sun to bring me to the sea, until i have to run in some places to keep pace with the sun.

Just when i thought i will fail to see sunset, i saw signs of the sea horizon. And i was so excited that i ran and ran till i reach the beach and lucky that i was able to see the sunset in front of my eyes after all the effort. In fact, i felt very happy and energetic, as i was running with my mp3 playing some great songs. Running towards the sun’s direction at that moment was an entire experience felt like running towards HOPE or DREAM. I don’t know why i got that feeling, but i felt FANTASTIC like dream fulfilled. Never have i felt like this in a run, LOL.

The beach was AWESOME, with a big wide esplanade, and strong wind brought up all the sandy sand like tiny desert storm.

One thing i sure hoped i could do in the future, is what the photo above shows, strolling along the beach with my dog (i wish to have German shepherd, hehe). See, one thing i like about the beaches here is that it is free and belong to no one, no hotel, no development, no resort. Anyone can visit the beaches anytime and do what you like. You have the stretches and stretches of sandy beach to yourself. Imagine trying to bring your dog to damai beach??? i’m sure it’s not allowed, needless to say bring your bike to ride along the beach.

Semaphore

is actually a small sailor’s town, with many retired captains….and that town gave me a very warm feeling, people here are just care-free, enjoying fine dining in the restaurants with wine, chating, laughing……like that little town a lot.

After strolling a bit around the streets, it was late, and i don’t know what bus to catch to go back Port Adelaide and don’t know what’s the bus’s schedule, so i just decided to walked back to Port Adelaide following signboards, ahaha. Really felt like a lonely looooooooooooooooong walk, felt like 流浪汉，hahah, the only thing was i’m not drunk. Walked a FAIRLY LONG distance back, luckily when i reached Port Adelaide, i was just minutes before the last bus back to city CBD operates, haha.

Traveling around Adelaide have make me WALKKKKKKKKKKKKKKK miles and miles……but i’m contented and happy after every trip though tired. :)

Glenelg, city of Holdfast Bay

Located only 10km from the heart of Adelaide City, Glenelg is a charming seaside resort set on the long sandy white shores of Holdfast Bay.

Duno why it’s called holdfast bay, hahaha. It is the most popular coastal region of Adelaide due to its close proximity to Adelaide city centre and tram service to the very door of Glenelg. Being a popular destination, there are shops there too for shopping, just like another small shopping cum relaxing place. You can be at the shopping heaven of rundle mall or food heaven of gouger street and the next minute, you are on the tram to Glenelg for relax and sunset, HOW GOOD is that?

A lot of people went there just for the weekend, sit back and relax, a picnic for the family, reading books, enjoy the sea breeze….etc. There's also a water theme park though a small one.

There are apartments along the seaside, although i duno whether there are for rent or wat.

I have walked a long distance to find this old rum tree of Glenelg….the minute i saw it in the brochure, i wana get there……the curvy shape of the tree trunk looks so fascinating….wahaha. Apparently it was located inside a children playground+park. It’s amazing to me how the tree trunk can bend like that…haha.

Basically i have walking around the city of holdfast bay in a big circle. There’s a habour too, and where the “buffalo” ship stay. It is a historical old ship now turned into a restaurant. How nice to have a meal on top of it!!!!

The gates controlling the sea water flow into the habour and also doors entry and exit of small boats.

Right below the apartments i mentioned above, there are heaps of restaurants for those savor in foods or a glass of wine or beer. It’s always nice to sit by the seaside enjoying some wine/beer and food while chit-chating with frens!!!

Snapped the sailing boat above with a man walking on the beach….i always like this kind of photo!!! Though it may seem lonely or wat….but i like the feeling generated from this kind of picture. N it certainly reminded me of Friend+SHIP.

Fishing around the coastal region is favourite past time for many….u’ll see someone fishing everywhere along the jetty. I found many among the fishers are Asians from Korea, mainland China and Jap like this activity.

Saw this special car parking along side the road. Looks super cool, hehe. Icre-cream is famous there. So i tot i gave one of them a try. Bought myself a Coperhangen ice-cream, tasted vy good…hehe.

Have been trying to capture a good photo of this tram-crossing sign post elsewhere, this was the best i got so far!!! really like this sign post….duno watever reasons, but it look special to me, hehe.

As dawn approached at 9PM…..the sunset there was magically awesome, no clouds, just the sun, the empty sky and the vast sea. Hoped Malaysia have such a place too especially in the hectic life of KL/PJ….Glenelg is kind of like Port dickson to Seremban but being more clean and well-developed and NEARER!!!!

Tour down under in SA at East terrace rundle park. All bikers and fans rushed to the race to watch it and secured a good spot for good view. Some even bring foldable chair and snacks for a enjoyable watch. The famous Lance Armstrong whom had survived from testicular cancer that spread to his lung, abdomen,...was in the race too to spice up the race. Many were there to see and give support to Lance for his come back to the road cycling race after his 2005 retirement . His recovery and determination has inspired many, it was now in book too. Though he didn’t won the race, i guessed it’s more of a training and testing for him before Tour de France which he consecutively won 7 times breaking any world record!!!

It was quite interesting to see a world cycling race even though i have watched of Tour de Langkawi in Kuching when i was young, but maybe at that time i don’t really know how to appreciate it. haha. Here there’s even a bike workshop purposely setup for bike fans to visit and see how those bike mechanics maintain those racing bikes. Bear in mind, cycling in Adelaide is pretty much a sport as it is to football or tennis here, thus the race did drew in a big crowd.

Note: Do you know that there’s even free bikes to rent for whole day in Adelaide, how wonderful it is huh?? They reckoned it’s a good way to enjoy the city and exercise. One day i shall go rent one and ride around the city and along the beaches :).

MJ: KING OF POP!!!! undeniable fact !!!

When i was 5-6yrs old, i was already a super michael jackson fan.....,my parents, relative, brother's friends would have said i'm try to learn MJ dance and dance the moves.... I guessed MJ songs was hits everywhere, everyone includint my brother and relatives seems to own at least one or two album of his especially the album 'thriller' and 'bad', and playing those songs everywhere, that's how i got influenced and into the MJ era!!!

Funny though, i only have bought his album 'Dangerous', haha. Lucky that my brother bought the 'Bad' album and my cousin owned the 'History' album.

I'm definitely a fan of moonwalker.........i even finished played the SEGA MJ game, wahaha. Everytime MJ dance moonwalker, all the gangsters died in the game.

All the dance moves in smooth criminal MTV attracted me so much that i try to learn it and watched the clip several times. And i noe no one can dance so uniquely like him, all the moves were so ORIGINAl. There are many songs of his that i liked SOOOOOOO MUCH, however the favourite song remained smooth criminal mainly to his moonwalker movie and SUPERB dance moves though i liked bilie jean alot too.

I even listened to his Jackson 5 and his teen age albums, and they were all nice, never too old!!! Watched the movie where he started as Jackson 5 singing ABC and became solo. His teen song 'ben' was a hit.

I'm always and still a fan of MJ and his songs, no matter when and where i listen to them, his songs get me movinggggg!!! N i nvr care bout his personal life, wat so interesting bout his face plastics surgery and child stuff and marriage?? as along as he produce nice and good songs.

I thinked quite many forgot he sang some GOOD songs to relay message about poverty - heal the world, hindrance - they don't really care about us, making a change on yourself - man in the mirror, saving nature - earth song, written the song "we are the world"......

Anyway just wana said RIP MJ, u r a legend:)
