My ordinary life (5)

IMG_7942
Since the 2nd 6 months of 2009, i have suddenly found that Hungry Jacks very convenient for me. Plus ever since Xiao passed my the coupons for Hungry Jacks, i been eating their burgers and fries for many times. The coupons make their burgers affordable, plus their burgers are much better than McD and KFCs, haha. Later, did i only knew that Hungry Jacks is actually Burger King of Malaysia. No wondered their burgers are bigger in portion.

Somewhere, sometime ago,  i bought this fruit called …… for a try. Turned out that it’s tasteless, and by the time i eat it, it was already quite ripe which is makes it very soft texture. And NO, i don’t really like it. Then i only realized that it was best eaten when it not ripe, and people here have it as a salad, mix it in sandwich, or eat it raw, or mix into their burgers. Haha, somehow after this experience, i have never try it again eventhough my post doc bring to us from his dad’s orchard for free, lol.

I really to cook soup here because it’s easy to prepare and usually taste not bad. This time i explore “菜汤”with “中国大白菜”, it taste good, haha.

Repeated attempts to cook the basa fish, hehe. Again sometimes taste good, sometimes so so, always find it taste nicer when i leave it overnight, haha. Probably the fish and everything in there have absorbed the taste overnight.

My 2 attempts with the BABAS curry, haha. My malay colleague told me where to buy the ingredients. I was surprised to find them sold here in one of the asian supermarket. My 1st attempt was good, haha. Quite spicy actually, 2nd attempt the coconut milk (can) not fresh already (left in fridge a while), so the curry sauce tasted a bit weird, haha. Shu xia, now u believe i cooked it le instead of take away food or eat out, LOL.
But it's tedious to prepare too.

These days instead of cooking instant noodle, this became my quick, easy meal either lunch or dinner or lun+din+supper, haha.

Andrew’s BIG 40th birthday!!!

 IMG_9970
Andrew’s BIG 40th birthday!!!! haha. Andrew is a research assistant in the lab i work in. He’s been in that lab for quite a couple of years, 3-4 years i’m not wrong, work in a number of labs before this. He’s the MAN that take care of heaps of stuff in the lab, and also the department. He’s just like the lab handy man, or the “ORACLE” of the lab. He knows a lot of stuff, where to find, where to get, where to go, what to do, techniques, skills, programs, and most importantly, he is as knowledgeable as a post doc to me, everyone goes to him for advice. Anything we can’t find, don’t know, unsure, we go to him. I must admit that when I first met him, he seems a bit fierce/strict to me. However, the truth is i get along well with him, chat heaps, and he is friendlier than i thought. He is just a like a teacher that teaches the kids patiently and thoroughly. But if you don’t go by the lab rules set, u’ll definitely piss him off, haha. Hence, it’s no surprise, that he is a start in the department, everyone knows him, many people from other labs come to him for a chat, advice, help…etc.

And we all from our lab surely wanted to do something big for him on his 40th!!! haha. SO there u go, the pictures below tells it all :)

We decorated his bench, made cakes for him, bday card, bday present, paste his bday poster around the department, haha…

Spring time in Mt. Lofty Botanic garden!!!

IMG_9862
Spring time in Mt.Lofty Botanic garden is as mesmerizing as Autumn. It’s really true that this garden change according to the 4 seasons. Came back to this place again in October. Missed the bus, so i walked up as i don’t wana waste time waiting for the bus. This was just about half a month after Mt.Feathertop trip, haha, thought my leg is fine, however, my leg hurts badly while walking uphill, and after that downhill during back. But the beauty of the garden tells me it definitely worth it :).

Always seen old couples accompanying each other strolling the gardens, streets, beaches, buses…etc. Western old couples appreciate each other more and more as they aged compared to the eastern, clearly something very different from asian countries, haha.
IMG_9924 IMG_9927 IMG_9933 IMG_9934 IMG_9939

Came across this purple world which is UNBELIEVEABLE PRETTY, some more it look like wild flowers that grow in wild which i like instead of looking across a farm of flowers.
IMG_9945 IMG_9950 IMG_9955 IMG_9957 IMG_9959 IMG_9976IMG_9966 IMG_9971  IMG_9982

After viewing those pretty purple flowers, went ahead to search for sakura flowers that are planted in these garden, though not many. Hoping they are in blooming still. However, the sakuras season were either over or not really started. And there’s TOO FEW of them, which make it nothing matchable to Japan or Korea sakuras, sigh. haha. Still went explore around the garden.

Surprisingly, there’s a lot of this while flowering plants around especially near water area. There are a pretty sight to look at :)IMG_9999

This blue bird in the picture below looks quite colourful with shiny blue feathers, haha. Seen it a few times, however this is the 1st time i’m able to photograph it so close :)

This familiar spots taken at a different time have a different feeling. It give you a different relaxing feeling compared to during autumn :)IMG_0042 IMG_0044   IMG_0049  IMG_0055 IMG_0056 IMG_0061 IMG_0062  IMG_0092 IMG_0094 IMG_0095

Hang around the garden a whole evening, spending time exploring more parts of the garden and taking photos. Another great time here.
